I appreciated the information provided in the appendix, being able to learn about several theories and having Worthington discuss the conflicts with these theories, What I found is that I agreed with most of the theories and when I read the critique I was able to understand the flaws and how they may not be entirely accurate. This has opened my mind to wanting to explore more about these theories so that I am able to be aware of several theories to possible use as I practice. These are interesting techniques that I could see myself using, but as I read further to his stages of therapy I was a little perplexed. MRI believes that one can understand the overall behavior without understanding the individual. Communication consists of syntax way information is transmitted, semantics meaning of communication, and pragmatics effects of communication on both sender and receiver. MRI focuses on the pragmatics and using behavioral communication to help the couple. The example that was given helped me to understand the concept of MRI t hat poor communication can lead to a symptom that may solve other difficulties the couple are having.
